Jaume Vendrell Bayona (Barcelona, ​​1961) lived his childhood and adolescence in the Horta neighborhood of Barcelona. He studied music theory at the Barcelona Higher Municipal Conservatory of Music, but his training as a percussionist is self-taught.

He began his career as a drummer in a group formed by music-loving school friends at the end of 1976. With various changes of members and name, this activity lasted until the 90s.

In the late 80s, he came into contact with the world of Barcelona's " colles de diables " (devil groups) and was fascinated by the artistic potential of the percussion ensembles accompanying these groups' pyrotechnic displays. In 1992, commissioned by the Barcelona Institute of Culture (ICUB), he composed the music for the opening of the " Correfoc de la Mercè " (fire run).

In 1993, he organized a percussion ensemble to participate in this show with members of various " colles " (groups) from the Coordinadora de Diables de Barcelona (Barcelona Devils' Coordinating Committee). This project, called " Atabalament ," grew until 1996, when, with its own repertoire written mainly by him, it became a stable professional group with considerable success and a busy performance schedule, reaching Mallorca, Rome, Milan, and Lisbon.

This activity brought him into contact with the “ Centre Artesà Tradicionárius ” (CAT), where he met highly experienced musicians in the world of traditional and folk culture. They were the ones who inspired Jaume to decide, in 1998, to dedicate himself exclusively to music as a professional. He taught percussion workshops at the CAT until 2002, while also conducting workshops for various “colles” (groups) throughout Catalonia, even traveling as far as Mallorca (Sa Pobla) and Castellón (Morella).

As a result of a personal crisis that hit him hard in 2002, this entire project inexorably fell apart. After several years of recovery he joined the Circo Raluy company at the end of 2008.

Once again, he is captivated by the artistic potential this work offers: blending the music of the different acts with the artists' performances on stage. The improvisation techniques and routines he has learned over the years now serve to accompany the artists in their performances, adapting the rhythm and accents to their individual paces and intensities. This has led him to continue developing this work at the current " Circ Histórico Raluy ."

Today, under the direction of Rosa Raluy, daughter of the founder and creator of the circus, Carlos Raluy, there is still a long way to go (in the territory and on the track).
