About Carlos Raluy

Carlos Raluy Tomás was the second son of the acrobat Luis Raluy Iglesias and Marina Tomas Jorba.

Born in Sant Adrià de Besòs (Barcelona) on October 26, 1945, from a very young age he began traveling the world with his father and older brother. The successful artistic and professional career of his father allowed the family to visit very distant countries, something unusual at that time. This peculiar lifestyle allowed Carlos and the entire Raluy family to develop a modern and emancipated mentality, learn languages and appreciate cultural diversity.

His father soon became his coach. At the age of 14, Carlos made his debut alongside his father and his brother Luis as an acrobat on fixed bars. During his youth, he performed in some of the best European venues, and together with his younger brothers, Eduardo and Francis, he also performed a flying trapeze act. But his passion for the circus was not limited to the ring. Carlos was a vehicle enthusiast, entrepreneur and dreamed of taking his own circus around the world, a desire that he had pursued since his childhood.

In 1972, the whole family was performing in Blackpool (United Kingdom). At that time, his brother Luis was already married and had a daughter, and Carlos was about to become a father. The artists' salary was not enough to cover the expenses of such a large family, and the brothers thought about going their separate ways. It was then that Carlos proposed the idea of joining forces to open his own circus, which became a reality that same year under the name Circo Moscovo and debuted in Portugal. From that moment, Carlos, with the trust of his father, became the helmsman of the company and the family itself. His circus grew year after year and in the late 70s, under the name Circo Ringland, it became one of the most important circus companies in Spain.

In the following years, he continued to fulfill all his dreams by taking his circus on tour through Europe, Africa and America. In the mid-80s, he decided to unite his great passions, the circus and classic vehicles. This great intuition led to the birth of Historical Raluy Circus. At this stage, his brothers Eduardo and Francis decided to follow separate business paths, while his older brother, Luís, continued to rely on Carlos' intuitions.

This new stage consolidated Carlos as one of the most great circus entrepreneurs of all time. The Raluy Circus won numerous awards, including the National Circus Award, the Max Award from SGAE, the Estrella de Mar from Argentina, the Cree de Sant Jordi and the City of Barcelona Award. Today, Circus Raluy has 2 legacies carried on by different members of the family and has established itself as one of the best circuses in history.
