Mar del Plata witnessed the historic premiere of the Raluy Historical Circus in Argentina —an event that sparked significant media interest, with coverage in prestigious publications such as La Nación . We adapt that narrative here from our perspective, celebrating the impact our tour of Latin America has had on the local press.
The company, which arrived from Spain, brings together fifty artists and technicians from nine countries , along with more than thirty restored floats and trucks from the early 20th century, recreating the aesthetic of the traditional romantic circus. It is a fully mobile “circus caravan” that also functions as a traveling museum: nomadic life, classical art, and visual charm. As Carlos Raluy points out, this is a project that “honors circus traditions for a cultured audience that appreciates both the spectacle and the history behind it . ”
The artists describe the circus profession as an intense passion: "What we love most is traveling through different countries, meeting different people; this profession opens the mind," says Silvano Garibaldi, an Italian acrobat who performs knife-throwing alongside his children in high-risk acts. As they explain, applause is addictive, and the itinerant life also demands sacrifice.
Carlos Raluy, of Catalan origin, represents the third generation of a great circus tradition that began with his grandfather and grew with his father until it became established as the Raluy Circus Museum.
