The Raluy Historic Circus is currently presenting its new show, Saltimbanqui , in Barcelona , a production that pays tribute to the founder of the circus dynasty, Carlos Raluy. The show breaks with convention from the very beginning: there is no curtain, and the artists burst onto the stage through the historic carriages surrounding the tent, creating an atmosphere that transports the audience to bygone eras.
Carlos Raluy , co-director of the company, explains that the show is inspired by the lives of traveling performers in the early 20th century, when his father toured the world as an artist. “It’s dedicated to our father. The family’s passion has always been to preserve the traditional circus,” he says proudly.
The essence of the Raluy Historic Circus remains intact: an intimate, meticulously crafted show featuring fifty artists who remain faithful to classic circus tradition . Although the acts have been updated over the years, the company maintains a unique personality that sets it apart from large-scale modern productions. “Contemporary circus uses massive choreography and spectacular lighting. We opt for a different way of moving the audience,” Raluy adds.
Beyond the spectacle under the big top, Saltimbanqui is complemented by a visual tour of the century-old caravans that accompany the troupe. Many of them are over a hundred years old and have become rolling museum pieces, witnesses to a family legacy that reinvents itself with each generation.
With this production, Circ Raluy reaffirms its commitment to tradition, the memory of its origins, and the transmission of circus magic to new generations, keeping alive a unique cultural heritage.
