The circus Historical Raluy Circus returns for Christmas to the Moll de la Fusta in Barcelona with a very special show: a tribute to the legendary Circ Olimpia, that permanent coliseum located on Sant Pau Street that, between 1924 and 1947, offered the Barcelona public the chance to see great artists of the dance floor. Among them was Luis Raluy Iglesias, who introduced himself as the famous "Captain Raluy, the human projectileThe tribute includes a small exhibition of historical photographs that connects the past with the present of the circus in the city.
A show full of tradition and great numbers
The program, presented as usual by Carles Raluy, combines the essence of the classics with contemporary offerings. Colombian Douglas Gerling excels on the wire, while the Penkov Duo dazzles with acrobatic exercises on the carpet and jumps onto the scales. The audience enjoys the club juggling of Jean Cristophe and William, as well as the charismatic ascending balls act of Luisa and Kerry Raluy.
The young Niedziela brings a fresh touch with her unicycles, incorporating a luminous heart and new choreography that she will soon bring to the Valencia Circus Festival. At the top of the dome, Rosa Raluy thrills with her aerial ropes, while Brazilian Fabricio draws applause with an original bicycle act on an improvised velodrome suspended in the air.
The tribute also incorporates humor, one of Olimpia's pillars. Joan Montanyés "Monti" recovers the figure of the classic clown with entries like "Los globos", and Sandro Roque presents various reprises that range from imaginary pelota to rock and roll, passing through the famous entrance of the orchestra popularized by David Larible. Lluiset Raluy's strength is also present with his strongman demonstration and the acrobatic comedy number "The Daltons”, where police and robbers engage in a crazy chase.
The memory of the Circ Olimpia and the legacy of Raluy
The show honors the great clown groups that performed at the Circ Olimpia, such as Antonet and Beby, the Moreno Brothers, Rudi Llata, the Díaz Brothers, Pompoff and Theddy, among others. This historical memory is intertwined with a contemporary program that inspires laughter, emotion, and reflection among today's audiences.
Interestingly, the Olympia also featured animal acts—elephants from Mr. Rossi, horses and pachyderms from the Knie Circus, and lions from Mr. Rosard—which, for reasons already known, are not part of the tribute. Even so, Raluy's proposal manages to recreate the atmosphere of that legendary circus with respect, creativity, and special attention to detail.
The result is an entertaining, vibrant show, true to the Raluy family's signature style, which draws a loyal audience to Barcelona every Christmas. With this tribute, the Raluy Historical Circus not only celebrates its own legacy but also keeps alive the memory of a space that is part of the city's cultural history.
