MAX Awards

The Max Awards for the Performing Arts are the most prestigious awards in Spanish theatre and dance. They were created in 1998 by the General Society of Authors and Publishers (SGAE) to recognize excellence in the performing arts, promoting and showcasing the talent of creators, performers, and companies in the country.

Each year, the Max Awards recognize the best shows and professionals in various categories, including best theater production, best dance performance, best stage direction, best actor and actress, best playwright, and best musical composition for a stage production , among others. In addition, there are special awards such as the Max Honorary Award , which recognizes the career of a prominent figure in the performing arts, and the Max Amateur or Socially Responsible Award , which is given to projects with a positive impact on the community.

The winners are selected by a jury composed of industry professionals, who evaluate the nominated works and artists. The awards ceremony is held annually in different cities across Spain, an event that brings together the most prominent figures in the country's theater and cultural scene.

The awards are named after Max Estrella , the protagonist of Ramón María del Valle-Inclán's play Luces de Bohemia (Bohemian Lights ), considered one of the most important works of 20th-century Spanish theater. Over the years, the Max Awards have become a key platform for promoting and recognizing creativity and innovation in theater and dance, showcasing artistic talent and strengthening the cultural industry in Spain.
