El Historical Raluy Circus has always stood out for recreating the historical atmosphere of the circus and for its family composition. Founded in Catalonia, it has been recognized with the National Circus Award in 1996 and the Cree de Sant Jordi in 2006.
Origins of the Raluy Historical Circus
The history of the Raluy Historic Circus dates back to 1911 with the birth of Luis Raluy Churches in Carcassonne, France. Raised in Sant Adrià del BesòsIn Barcelona, Luis developed a passion for the circus, influenced by his father, who performed with a bear and a goat. Luis distinguished himself as an inventor of acts such as the «Human double cannon" and the "Triple somersault in a car", which allowed him to perform in the best circuses and theaters in the world between the 30s and 60s.
During the 1960s and 1970s, Luis explored artistic direction, betting on retro carriages rescued from different places around the world, which today remain one of the main attractions of the circus. With his own circus and an unwavering passion, he traveled to more than 30 countries, transporting his carriages from the last century by land, sea and air.
In 1972, brothers Carlos and Lluís Raluy, sons of Luis, began to run the family circus, consolidating their presence in the circus scene. However, in 2016, the synergy between the brothers weakened, complicating the business balance.
Raluy expands in two projects
That same year, Luisa and Kerry, daughters of Lluís, decided to embark on a new path and found their own show, the Circo Raluy Legacy, with the aim of exploring new opportunities and artistic proposals. This decision marked the beginning of a period in which the family members chose to follow separate paths, which allowed each project to develop its own identity and achieve different objectives within the world of the circus. Consequently, the original Circus was divided into two entities: the Legacy, directed by Luisa Raluy, and the Circo Histórico Raluy, under the direction of Rosa Raluy, daughter of Carlos.
After their separation, both companies continued the Raluy family's circus tradition, each with its own identity and style, but maintaining the essence and legacy that characterizes them.
The story of the Raluy Historic Circus is a testament to the passion and dedication of a family that has adapted to changes and challenges, keeping the magic of the circus alive throughout the generations.
